Suresh Raina is an Indian cricketer from the state of Uttar Pradesh. He is primarily a left-hand batsman, who is known for his ability to hit the stumps from the infield. He is also an occasional off-spinner.Raina hit the second fastest century in Indian ODI history when he raced to three figures off 66 balls against Hong Kong in the 2007 Asia Cup and finished the tournament as the second highest run-getter.
In late 2003, he toured Pakistan for the U-19 Asian ODI Championship before being selected for the 2004 U-19 World Cup, where he scored three half centuries, including a 90 scored off only 38 balls. He was then awarded a Border-Gavaskar scholarship to train at the Australian Cricket Academy and in early 2005, he made his first-class limited overs debut, and scored 645 runs that season at an average of 53.75.
Raina played for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League in 2008 and 2009. His bowling has proven more useful in the shortest version of the game: in 2009 he had the fifth best economy rate in the IPL among those bowlers who delivered more than 20 overs.
In the first edition of IPL, Raina scored 420 runs in his 14 innings in the middle, with a highest score of 55, at an average of 35, and a strike rate of 139.07. He smashed 18 sixes and 35 fours in the tournament.
Raina was the fourth-highest run-getter in the second edition of the IPL, though he managed just two half-centuries. Its seems like that this year he has cemented his spot as one of the world's best young limited-overs players. After a superb 2008 IPL promoted him to India's one-day side, another brilliant showing this year has cemented his spot as one of the world's best young limited-overs players. 434 runs, seven wickets and some sublime catches were a wonderful contribution to Chennai's campaign.
