Mohammad Asif is a Pakistani right arm medium fast bowler in cricket. Asif has played first-class cricket for Khan Research Labs, the National Bank, Quetta, Sheikhupura, Sialkot and Leicestershire. He made his Test match debut for the Pakistan cricket team against Australia in January 2005.
In 2006, there was a cricket controversy involving Asif, after he tested positive for anabolic steroid, Nandralone, before having a ban imposed on him overturned on appeal. He was later withdrawn from Pakistan's World Cup squad with an unrelated injury.
Further cricket controversy followed when he was detained in Dubai suspected of having drugs on his person and was then found to have tested positive for a banned substance during the Indian Premier League. In the first edition of the IPL, Asif scored 3 runs in his 2 innings in the middle, with a highest score of 3, at an average of 1.5 and a strike rate of 42.86. He took 8 wickets in the tournament, in the 8 matches that he played, with a best of 2/19 at an average of 37.12, with an economy rate of 9.53 and a strike rate of 23.38. However, Asif will miss IPL-II because no Pakistani players are allowed to take part in the tournament.
