Rahul Dravid is one of the most experienced cricketers in the Indian national team, of which he has been a regular member since 1996. He was appointed as the captain of the Indian cricket team in October 2005.Dravid was honored as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 2000.Dravid was also awarded the ICC Player of the Year and the Test Player of the Year at the inaugural awards ceremony held in 2004.

Dravid is the third Indian batsman, after Sunil Gavaskar and Sachin Tendulkar, to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket and the sixth player in history and the third Indian, after Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, to score 10,000 runs in ODI cricket. Dravid has been involved in 72 century partnerships in Test cricket - the most in history and is the only batsman to have been involved in two ODI partnerships exceeding 300 runs.
